The following online exhibits showcase many items and artifacts in the Georgia Historical Society's collections. The historical information and primary sources contained in these exhibits will help form a background for study, for students and enthusiasts of any age. Digital images of artifacts and documents offer a visual aid and exemplify the ways in which the Society's collections can serve researchers and students alike. The narrative is punctuated by teaching tips and classroom suggestions for activities related to the subject, as well as opportunities for further investigation.

Three Centuries of Georgia History is an educational online exhibit that examines the last three centuries of Georgia history from its Colonial roots to the height of the Plantation Era, and to the sweeping changes of the Progressive Era.

From June 6–July 2, 2010, GHS hosted a four-week National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) funded summer seminar entitled, “The American Civil War at 150: New Approaches.” Led by Seminar Director and GHS President and CEO Dr. W. Todd Groce, 16 participants (14 college faculty and two graduate students) hailing from 14 states joined GHS for an in-depth, scholarly exploration of the reasons behind, the players within, and the consequences of the American Civil War.

 

 

  Conquered Banners: Georgia's Civil War Flags

The Georgia Historical Society is pleased to present “Conquered Banners: Georgia’s Civil War Flags.”  This 12-month exhibit of rare flags made and carried during the first year of the Civil War will be on display in the reading room of GHS's Hodgson Hall. The six beautifully-conserved flags, on loan from the National Park Service, Fort Pulaski National Monument, will be rotated for display every three months throughout 2011, the first year of the 150th anniversary of the Civil War.

 

 

  From June 12, 2011 to June 25, 2011 the Georgia Historical Society offered two week-long workshop sessions for community college faculty exploring two centirues of African - American life and culture in Savannah and Georgia's coastal islands.This online exhibit outlines the activities, topics and themes of each day of the workshop, provides audio recordings of the scholarly lectures, and highlights related materials from the collection of the Georgia Historical Society.
